Zermatt is famous for its tremendous views of the Matterhorn, unmistakable symbol of Switzerland. The town is layout on the Mattervispa valley, the river that flows from the Matterhorn range. From the town, there are a number of easily accessible rides to the nearby heights that provide spectacular views of the Matterhorn and the surrounding equally great but less well known mountains. Definitely not to be missed is the Gornergrat and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. A three day pass at CHF168 will sufficiently covers the rides to Goernergrat (CHF72) and Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (CHF84), plus other lesser rides. On the other hand, Swiss Pass holders are entitled to 50% discount for all the rides. Besides the excursion, the town itself has plenty of charm.
We spent about 1.5 days in Zermatt, visiting the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Goernergrat and Schwarzee Paradise. Truly the climax of this Europe trip!
