On the second day, we had an early start to Augsburg, another major city on the Romantic Road. Augsburg is quite similar to Wurzburg, with a typical German old city center. However, it appears to be bigger and busier than Wurzburg, with more commercial activities. We took around two hours to walk round downtown before heading towards the famous Neuschewanstein, the gem of the Romantic Road.
1 - 3. The St Ulrich, at the south part of downtown Augsburg.4 to 6. Maximilianstrabe, the main thoroughfare of downtown Augsburg, with the fountains of Hercules and Mercurius.
7 to 9. Like any typical German town, the square in front of the Rathaus is the main center of activity of the town. The main attractions of Augsburg's Rathausplatz are the fountain of Augustus, the 70m high Perlachturm built in the 10th century as a watchtower, and of course, the Rathaus itself.
10 to 11. The Zueghaus, formerly the armoury built in the 17th century. The bronze scuplture shows the angel St Michael defeating the Satan.
